Leadership Development Programme

Sewa Beats offer a unique leadership drumming experience which allows participants to lead the music. Leadership in West African drumming tradition is highly participative and relationship conscious. When stepping up to lead, participants have the opportunity to address and improve on critical leadership skills including: orchestrating, delegating, inspiring, commanding, being in sync, demonstrating initiative, courage, creativity and authority.

Sewa Beats makes participants explore, learn and apply the practicalities of leadership:

  • Experiencing ‘uncharted territory’: participants feel what it is like to be leading an activity when they are not an expert.
  • Leading under pressure: potential leaders gain insights on how to cope when being bombarded by information from all directions.
  • Realising what it takes to lead successfully: creating their own unique piece of music makes participants aware that, for the music to work, they need a vision of what they want and a plan for how to achieve it – just like leading an organisation.
  • Extending comfort zones: participants can experiment and even ‘fail’ in a safe environment – and then go on to succeed.
  • Team management: how to orchestrate and lead a team of leaders, using all of the senses to communicate.
  • Effective followership: it’s one thing teaching leadership, but it’s another teaching others to follow. They are two sides of the same coin. Train those who are destined to lead as well as those who are destined to cooperate.

The Leadership Development Programme will help you identify strong leadership potential, team builders and good communicators. It offers an excellent toolset to develop people’s leadership and general management skills. It is also a subtle, safe and effective way for participants to understand their own strengths and to recognise areas for self-improvement.
