Sewa Beats offers a unique leadership drumming experience which allows participants to lead the music. Leadership in West African drumming tradition is highly participative and relationship conscious. When taking the lead, participants have the opportunity to address and improve some critical leadership skills. These include: orchestrating, delegating, inspiring, commanding, being in sync, demonstrating initiative, courage, creativity and authority.
Sewa Beats gives participants the possibility to explore, experience and put into practice different aspects of leadership.
-
Experiencing uncharted territory
Participants feel what it is like to lead an activity without being an expert.
-
Leading under pressure
Potential leaders are able to improve the way they handle a mass of information flows from all directions.
-
Developing a strategy for successful leadership
When creating their own unique piece of music, participants become aware that, for the music to work, they need a vision of what they want and a plan for how to achieve it - just like leading an organisation.
-
Extending comfort zones
Participants are able to experiment and even ‘fail' in a safe environment - and then go on to succeed.
-
Team management
Participants learn how to manage a team of leaders by appealing to all their communicative faculties.
-
Effective followership
Participants are able to perceive the importance of followership. Following and leading are two sides of the same coin.
The leadership development programme helps identify strong leadership potential, team-builders and good communicators. It offers an excellent toolset for developing people's leadership and general management skills. It is also a subtle, safe and effective way of making participants aware of their own strengths and able to recognise areas for self-improvement.

It is a great honour for Sewa Beats that the great Mandingo master drummer and legendary teacher has agreed to become a patron of the company.
